Interesting Facts about Rose Hip Oil
  • Rose Hip Oil is a pure, natural plant oil gently extracted from the seed of the rose hip. Obtained from the wild rose, Rose Mosqueta, which thrives in the cool, rainy and unpolluted Andes Mountains, Chile.
  • The common name of Rose Mosqueta is actually the name used to cover the three main species of Roses used to produce Rose Hip Oil. The two main species are Rosa rubiginosa (aka Rosa eglanteria) and Rosa canina which grow in major quantities. The third species is Rosa moschate, which is more limited in its spread and less likely to be picked to manufacture Rose Hip Oil.
  • The Rose Hips are collected from the wild, and it is for this reason the three roses are grouped under the one common name. The harvesting takes place by hand picking the wild Rose bushes. The picking is performed by workers of all ages and backgrounds, without the expertise to differentiate between species, and so it is accepted that all three plants can be picked to produce Rose Mosqueta oil or Chillean Rose Hip Oil.
  • The chemical and physical characteristics of the oils from Rosa canina and Rosa rubiginosa are very similar. Historically, Rose Hip oil was classified by INCI as “Dog Rose Fruit Oil” or “Rosa Canina oil”. The TGA recognises Rosa canina or Rosa eglanteria (which also covered Rosa rubiginosa). The oil produced in Chile is a mix of Rosa canina and R. rubiginosa. So any or all of the botanical names are correct
  • Not tested on animals
  • Does not contain animal products
