Myrrh resin is a natural gum that exudes from naturally occurring cracks in the small, thorny C. molmol busy. The ducts within the plant, hold the gum resin, and when incised can generate more resin and increase the yield of the plant. Collection is made following the incision, when the dried gum is about the size of a walnut. Myrrh Essential Oil is steam distilled from the myrrh resin. The color of the oil is pale-yellow to pale orange. It has a warm, sweet, slightly musty, earth-like, spicy aroma.
BIBLICAL OIL: “Quoted in Scripture 156 times, uses of Myrrh Oil in the Bible included use as an ointment, an incense, an embalming ingredient, and as a skin beauty treatment by Queen Esther, in Esther 2:12. By far, Myrrh’s most common usage in the Bible is as a part of holy anointing oil.” (Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DMN, CNS. Bible Oils: 12 most revered oils & their historic uses)
FACT: The name Myrrh is derived from the Hebrew “mor” and Arabic “mur”, both derived from ‘bitter’. There is a long and rich history of Myrrh reddish-brown hardened masses of oleo gum resin being traded as perfumes, medicines, and incense.
